OSAGE BEACH, Mo. — A fire department is considering purchasing security cameras after several of their firefighters’ vehicles were broken into over the weekend.

Osage Beach Fire Chief Jeffrey Dorhauer told KRCG that two firefighters had their vehicles broken into.

“The captain on-duty over the weekend is estimating he lost about $3,500 worth of items out of his car,” Chief Dorhauer said.

The chief also said this is the first burglary the station has experienced, prompting the need for security cameras.

“It will cover all outside areas of our stations so in the event this happens again, we’ll have video footage of who was involved,” Chief Dorhauer said.

Department firefighters are now taking extra precautions in locking their vehicles and securing their personal items. The chief is asking the community in helping identify those who committed the crime.

“It’s disheartening,” Chief Dorhauer said. “The individuals who did this, if they were to call 911 right now, our guys would respond to them as if they were any other citizen. Firefighters are really good people … the fact that somebody would do this to them, it’s kind of sad.
