LANCASTER, Pa. — A firefighter responding to a call Thursday morning was involved in a two-vehicle crash in Salisbury Township, officials said.
Gap Fire Company was among the companies dispatched at 7:14 a.m. to a building fire at Case New Holland in New Holland.
The crash occurred minutes later along Pequea Avenue, a few hundred yards south of the Gap fire station, fire Chief Troy Wenger said.
State police said that Mark Lowe, 33, of Washington Boro, was driving a pickup truck north on Pequea Avenue behind a pickup driven by Thomas Corbin, 51, of Gap.
Lowe is a Gap firefighter, according to the company’s website.
Corbin moved his vehicle into the southbound lane in an attempt to make a wide right turn into 810 Pequea Ave., but he failed to use a turn signal, according to police.
Investigators said the two trucks collided, causing Lowe’s vehicle to flip onto its roof. Lowe was not injured.
Corbin was stuck in his truck until Gap firefighters freed him by taking off a door with a hydraulic tool, Wenger said.
State police said that Corbin was taken to Lancaster General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He was issued two citations for causing the crash, they said.
The incident at Case New Holland was a small fire in a dust collector, a county dispatch supervisor said.
