6 Ky. firefighters injured after fire truck hits tree

One firefighter had to be cut out of the rig and suffered severe injuries; the others were taken to the hospital to be treated

ANDERSON COUNTY, Ky. — Several firefighters were injured Tuesday night after crashing their fire truck into a tree.

WKYT reported that the fire truck ran off the road and slammed into a tree while crews were on their way to a crash scene. The truck traveled roughly 75 feet off the road and into a resident’s yard before hitting the tree and uprooting it.

The firefighter sitting on the passenger side of the rig had to be cut out. Bystanders say that firefighter suffered the most severe injuries, according to the report.

Five other firefighters also had to be taken to the hospital before the truck was towed away. Their conditions are unknown.

“It caved the whole top of the fire truck in, and then they ended up having to come out and getting the fireman out of the fire truck,” said Noal Cotton, who owns the property where the fire truck crashed. “They had to cut a couple limbs off of the truck and the rest of the tree, they pulled it up with the wrecker.”

The first accident firefighters were responding to was a driver who rear-ended another driver, sending a vehicle into a cow pasture.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
