7 Pa. firefighters hurt in fire truck crash

All of the firefighters were evaluated for minor injuries and later released from the hospital

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. — A fire truck filled with firefighters on their way to a training exercise was involved in a four-vehicle accident Saturday morning that may have been caused by icy road conditions.

Philly.com reported that seven firefighters and one person from another vehicle were taken to a hospital after the crash. The fire company said on its Facebook page that all the firefighters were evaluated for minor injuries and released. The firefighters suffered bruises, back and neck pain but returned to work.

Richlandtown Fire Chief Calvin Trovinger said his department’s truck was headed to a training seminar when a northbound truck went out of control and struck the fire truck, knocking out the vehicle’s rear axle, according to the report.

In addition to the two trucks, two other vehicles were involved, with a total of 11 people in the four vehicles. One man was briefly trapped in his car but was freed by firefighters.

Chief Trovinger said firefighters and trained EMTs on the fire truck assisted the civilians at the scene, according to the report.

Police are investigating the accident.
