LEACH, Okla. — Fellow firefighters are mourning the death of a colleague who died after a fire truck overturned Wednesday.

Firefighter Michael Dale Russell, 68, was responding to a fire call when the rig he was operating veered off the road and overturned, reported KFOR. Russell was ejected from the driver’s side window; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Russell served the Leach Fire Department for nine years; his death is the department’s first line of duty death.

“He was always one of the first guys I could call to come help me on anything,” Leach Fire Chief Tom Pearce said.

The crash remains under investigation.
