HOOD RIVER, Ore. — A couple that runs a motel in the heart of current wildfires bought a used fire truck to keep their business safe.

KPTV reported that Roger Hicks, owner of the Bridge of the Gods Motel, and his fiancée Angela Guisinger found a deal on the used fire truck and have been spraying down the roof of the motel to protect them from burning embers.

“We’re in the heart of the Gorge, and the heart of the Gorge is on fire,” Guisinger said. “This isn’t just where we live, it’s our livelihood.”

Hicks said all 29 of his rooms are currently empty after numerous cancellations due to the fire. The couple said they’ve even heard rumors that their property was burned, but assured that they’re open for business with no damages.
