Fire department receives donations after firehouse burns

The fire department lost its primary fire truck in the blaze, which was likely started by an electrical short in the cab of the rig

RANDOLPH, Vt. — A volunteer fire department is receiving an outpour of support after its fire station caught fire Tuesday morning.

WCAX.com reported that town officials continue to assess the damage after a devastating fire at the Randolph Village (Vt.) Fire Department. Investigators believe the fire was likely triggered by an electrical short in the cab of the department’s engine and then spread to the rest of the building. A tanker truck, rescue unit and the building are a total loss, according to the report.

Town officials said they have received a lot of support from the firefighting community.

“We’ve had offers that some of the local fire companies, even as far as Burlington, have equipment that we might be able to use, engines — engine is a pumper/tanker — and specifically tank trucks,” Randolph Town Manager Mel Adams said. “That’s our problem right now. We have an engine that was not involved in the fire, but being a rural fire department in Vermont, we have to have water.”

In the meantime, the department will operate from the village highway garage while backup will continue from two neighboring departments.
