Firefighter in rig crash suspended for not disclosing DUI

Engineer David Nettles was driving en route to a call when it was hit by a car; the driver was critically hurt and passenger suffered minor injuries

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — The driver of a fire truck that was involved in a crash Friday has been placed on administrative leave for not disclosing a previous arrest for DUI.

ActionNewsJax reported that engineer David Nettles, 27, was arrested for driving under the influence in his personal vehicle while off-duty last November. Officials said he violated policy by failing to disclose information about the arrest to the Clay County Public Safety Department.

Nettles was driving the rig en route to a call Jan. 15 when it was hit by a car. The driver of the car was critically injured and a passenger had minor injuries. No firefighters were hurt.

The Florida Highway Patrol report said for unknown reasons the car failed to yield to the fire truck, which had its emergency lights and sirens activated.
