LEHIGH TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A volunteer firefighter was injured Sunday morning after falling from a ladder on a fire truck.
Allentown Morning Call reported that the unidentified firefighter, about 55 years old, was cleaning a fire truck for the Lehigh Township (Pa.) Fire Company No. 1 in preparation for a Labor Day parade. The firefighter was standing on top of a 12-foot-tall unit with a walkway and handrails when he fell onto a paved parking lot below.
Fire Chief Richard Hildebrand said the firefighter was seriously injured after falling 12 feet. He suffered a head injury, but Chief Hildebrand said he was moving all of his extremities, according to the report.
“We’ve just got our fingers crossed,” Hildebrand said. “There have been brothers with him around the clock.”
The accident is being investigated and there were no immediate signs of mechanical failure, officials said.
