Fla. man critical after colliding with fire truck

The driver failed to yield to the rig, with its lights and sirens on, as it was turning; three firefighters on board weren’t hurt

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 30-year-old Jacksonville man is in critical condition after the Florida Highway Patrol said his Saturn collided with a Clay County fire truck responding to an emergency Friday night.

The unidentified driver failed to yield to the fire truck as it was turning onto Kinglsley Avenue from Blanding Boulevard about 9:45 p.m., the Highway Patrol said. The left front of Saturn struck the right front of fire truck that had its lights and sirens activated.

Firefighters David Nettles, John Wilkinson and Jonathon Bryne were not hurt, according to the FHP. The Saturn also had a passenger, 25-year-old Caitlin Harvey, who was listed with minor injuries in the FHP crash report.

Details about the emergency that the men were responding to were not available.
