ROCHESTER, Ill. — A Rochester firefighter suffered minor injuries after the fire engine he was in crashed into a ditch on North Walnut Road near the village limits Thursday morning.
The incident happened about 11:30 a.m. as firefighters were responding to a shed fire on Gabriel Road.
According to a Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office report, the driver, Kirk Polley, 36, was heading north on North Walnut near Gaul Road when he got too far to the right and ended up on the shoulder of the road that was soft due to the recent rains. The truck veered into the ditch, hit a culvert and ended up in the ditch on the other side of the roadway.
An unidentified firefighter in the truck reported back pain and was taken to the hospital, fire officials said.
No citations were issued, the sheriff’s office said.
