ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. — A 45-year-old Orange County man is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs during a weekend crash that damaged a fire engine along Interstate 15 in Lake Elsinore, according to California Highway Patrol officers.

Cypress resident Victor Lindzy was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center following the 7:22 a.m. wreck Sunday along the freeway’s southbound lanes at Olive Street, south of Railroad Canyon Road.

He suffered a lacerated liver and fractures of his pelvis and a leg, Officer Mike Lassig said in a statement.

Two Cal Fire firefighters were pushing a disabled vehicle to the right shoulder just before the crash. Alerted by the fire engine’s flashing lights, 73-year-old Riverside resident Diana McKenna, pulled her 2013 Ford Transit around the fire truck and passed on the left, according to the statement.

Linzdy — who’d been following McKenna’s Ford Transit — sped up in their original lane to pass McKenna, but rear-ended the fire truck and bounced to the left, directly in front of McKenna, according to the CHP.

In turn, McKenna’s Ford Transit hit the fire truck and veered into a guardrail.

McKenna suffered a broken finger. Her passenger — 74-year-old Riverside resident Marlyce O’Toole — suffered a broken collarbone, the CHP reported.
