FALL RIVER, Mass. — The City Council wants to go spending, asking Mayor Sam Sutter to borrow enough to buy six new fire trucks.
Fire Chief Robert Viveiros appeared before the council Tuesday, asking for approval of a bond to buy a new pumper truck for $457,000. He could get more than he bargained for.
The truck manufacturer, KME, has seven trucks available at that price, a savings of about $50,000 per truck, Viveiros said. The trucks were built for a department that subsequently canceled the order, he explained. Fall River needs new trucks — six of the city’s front line trucks are more than 10 years old and need to be replaced, he said.
