GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A Michigan fire truck was struck Monday while responding to the scene of a multiple car crash caused by icy roads.
Firefighter Close Calls reported an interstate was closed for about two hours after seven cars were involved in three separate incidents around 9 p.m. A fire truck was blocking a ramp when a driver of a pickup truck lost control of his vehicle on the icy road and slammed into the back of the rig.
A police trooper said the road had iced over in several places, causing cars to slide. Several vehicles spun out while attempting to slow down for emergency vehicles.
Firefighters had to extricate one person from their vehicle. Two people were transported to the hospital in stable condition.
