AURELIUS, N.Y. — An Owasco volunteer firefighter was injured and a dog died during a house fire Monday afternoon in Aurelius.
The Owasco firefighter, whose name was not immediately available, tripped and injured his knee while working around the fire apparatus outside, quite a ways from the fire, said Aurelius Fire Chief Ryan Hultz. Throop Ambulance took the Owasco firefighter to Auburn Community Hospital for evaluation, Hultz said.
A passer-by, Cody Rossbach, called Cayuga County 911 at 2:16 p.m. Monday after seeing smoke come from vents at 5837 Experimental Road in Aurelius, the fire chief said. Aurelius, Cayuga, Fleming, Throop and Owasco volunteer firefighters responded. Port Byron and Skaneateles firefighters were on stand-by.
