MARIETTA, S.C. — Two of three firefighters have been released from the hospital after a fire truck overturned in Pickens County Monday morning en route to a house fire that arson investigators are looking into.

One firefighter is still in the hospital and in stable condition on Monday night, according to a representative for Pickens County Emergency Management. Troopers reported the crash happened along Pleasant Grove Road near Moody Bridge Road about 4:45 a.m. in Pumpkintown.

Troopers said the tanker truck driver swerved to hit a deer and the truck ran off the road, overturning. They said the driver was airlifted to Greenville Memorial hospital. Chuck Haynes, director of emergency management for Pickens County, said a Pumpkintown Volunteer Fire Department tanker truck was headed to a structure fire about 1 1/2 miles away when it overturned along a curve.
