Vt. firefighter ticketed after crashing fire truck into motorcyclist

The firefighter was issued a ticket for operating in violation of a restricted license by not wearing corrective lenses while operating a vehicle

BENNINGTON, Vt. — A woman was seriously injured Monday when a fire truck hit the motorcycle she was operating.

Bennington Banner reported that firefighter Gregg Barr, 22, was driving a fire apparatus westbound when it turned left to enter the driveway of the West Road Station. At the same time, Kimberly Hathaway, 54, was driving her motorcycle eastbound.

Police reports state that “the fire truck crossed into the path of travel of the oncoming motorcycle, causing the motorcycle to collide with the passenger side rear of the truck.”

Hathaway was taken by ambulance to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries including a fractured femur and a laceration to one of her knees, according to the report.

Both vehicles were damaged significantly and road conditions were dry at the time of the accident.

Firefighter Barr was issued a ticket for operating in violation of a restricted license by not wearing corrective lenses while operating a vehicle, according to the report.

The accident remains under investigation.
