The majority of SCBAs have a Mask-Mounted Regulator that connects the low-pressure air hose to the face piece and initiates airflow when the firefighter takes a breath.
A problem can occur when the connection is not complete. The MMR will pop out with any physical movement. To ensure that the connection has been made correctly, pull back on the MMR to try to pull it out. If connected properly, the MMR will remain secure to the face piece.
