During a training session last week, it was very noticeable that everybody’s PASS alarms were working. Most forgot to disengage the PASS alarm when doffing their SCBA. This set off cacophony of alarms.
It is important to prevent these false activations, as they foster a culture of complacency. Like the story of the boy who cried wolf, false activations become so common that there is no reaction on the fireground when an alarm does go off. When a real emergency occurs, life-saving actions may be delayed.
