FY 2012 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant Application Period to Open July 16, 2012

Application Period Opens: Monday, July 16, 8 a.m. Eastern Time
Application Deadline: Friday, August 10, 2012, 5 p.m. Eastern Time
Purpose: The SAFER Grants program provides funds to help fire departments and volunteer interest organizations increase or maintain the number of trained, “front line” firefighters available in their communities.

The SAFER Grant Program seeks to assist local fire departments with staffing and deployment capabilities in order to respond to emergencies, assuring communities have adequate protection from fire and fire-related hazards.
Grants are available in two categories:

  • Hiring Firefighters
  • Recruitment and Retention of Volunteer Firefighters.

Applicant Self-Evaluation Tools: Use the SAFER Self-Evaluation Sheets to gain insight into the peer review process and help to assess your organization’s readiness to apply for a SAFER grant. The documents explain the scoring dimensions that the peer reviewers will use to evaluate your application; there is a different tool for Hiring Grant applicants and Recruitment and Retention applicants.
