BUFFALO, N.Y. – Buffalo-based 3AM Innovations is named one of the GovTech 100 for the fifth year in a row. The brainchild of Buffalo natives Patrick O’Connor and Ryan Litt, 3AM Innovations provides first responders with technology to support incident management and mission-critical resource tracking and communications.

Now, with over 25 employees and a new downtown Buffalo office, the company began operation in 2017 with the ambition of empowering Incident Commanders with the ability to track their team no matter where they are during an incident. A former firefighter himself, President and co-founder O’Connor said:

“As a firefighter, what really hit home for me was how tough it can be for an incident commander to accurately locate crews in the chaos of an emergency. We operate in unfamiliar places with low visibility, it’s easy to get disoriented, and the Incident Commander relies on their team’s updates to know where they are. Any confusion can lead to serious consequences. So, at 3AM we set out to create tech that tracks a first responder’s location and provides decision support to command, so they can be reached quickly when it matters most.”

That ambition has since grown, and 3AM’s FLORIAN platform now offers a multitude of capabilities to streamline the onsite processes first responders manage, provide them with enhanced situational awareness, and promote the safety of their team.

Through key partnerships with leading technology providers, FLORIAN consolidates a range of vital information into a single interface which can be adapted to meet the specific requirements of the agency using it. With the ability to have multiple screens pulled into one viewable screen within FLORIAN. Incident Commanders can choose from a range of applications, including 3D maps of the incident area, resource tracking, on and offline communications, area wind patterns, and personnel location even when the personnel are subterranean or at an elevated point. Crucially, should a first responder become incapacitated for any reason, an automated Mayday signal will go out, providing the location of the person in need of assistance in an instant.

The FLORIAN platform, which works across phones, tablets, GPS/satellite trackers, and radios, has been hailed by industry heavyweights as one of the most advancing technologies the fire service has ever seen, one that will save firefighters’ lives. And it’s not limited to firefighters, 3AM Innovations have already been working with partners in the special events sector and has ambitions to expand further. COO and co-founder Litt said:

“Disasters are up, resources are down, readiness is essential. To be ready, we must work together. Our mission is to empower essential work with essential tech, no matter who makes it. In efforts to connect the world’s best operations to the world’s riskiest situations, we’ll be integrating awareness for years to come.”
