Exploding ammo injures Calif. firefighter

The firefighter was struck by a casing fragment; he was treated and released on the scene

OCEANSIDE, Calif. — A firefighter was injured Sunday after being struck by a casing fragment while battling a garage fire.

CNS reported that firefighters found the garage in flames with shotgun shells and bullet casing exploding inside. The firefighter struck by a casing fragment sustained a minor injury, according to the report. He was treated and released on the scene.

The fire was under control in about 35 minutes, according to the report. Two residents were displaced and the fire caused about $100,000 in damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
