FPA State Fire Commissioner Ed Mann Releases Statement on Death of State Fire Academy Adjunct Instructor

HARRISBURG, Pa. - PA State Fire Commissioner Ed Mann released the following statement regarding the death of State Fire Academy Adjunct Instructor Robert Gallardy.

“It is with a heavy heart and deepest sympathy to the Gallardy Family that I tell you that shortly after 11 a.m. today Bob Gallardy died from injuries he suffered while leading a training exercise at the State Fire Academy in Lewistown over the weekend. Bob gave his life in the passionate pursuit of helping others through firefighting. He spent more than 30 years with the fire service, the last nine as a firefighter and Captain with the City of Altoona. He will be sorely missed.

“Personnel from the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health are investigating the accident. Bob suffered burns over a large part of his body including his face and respiratory tract.

“On behalf of firefighters statewide, I extend my deepest sympathies to Bob’s wife, Vickie and his three sons, Kyle, Drew and Derek.”
