LOVELOCK, Calif. — A 17-year-old boy and his grandfather, 64, were found unharmed Tuesday night after failing to return from a trip to the snow.

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office was notified early Tuesday night that the pair were overdue, and were probably in the area of Powellton Road, north of Lovelock.

No one reported getting cellular calls from the pair, and a check for them in the Butte Meadows area was negative. Seven members of the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team went to look for the victims, with some searching Powellton Road from the intersection just south of Inskip, and some coming up from Lovelock.

The two were found in their disabled vehicle on the upper portion of Powellton just after 9 p.m. and transported to safety.

Officials said walking out of the area would have been difficult, especially for the teen, who is still on crutches following a recent surgery.

Search and rescue spokeswoman Madde Watts said two four-by-four vehicles and a special tracked vehicle called an Argo were used in the search.
