PLYMOUTH — Plymouth Ambulance has become a safer place to work since a direct-source capture system for diesel engine fumes was installed at the Germantown Pike garage in mid-July.
The $56,000 system of bright yellow hoses, magnetic couplers and a rooftop filter/exhaust system was financed through a $46,000 competitive grant from the federal Homeland Security Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program and $10,000 from Plymouth Township.
“The grant program is a competitive program. Only one out of four grant requests are awarded,” said Brosius. “There were $550 million in grants awarded last year but FEMA got applications for $1.8 billion.”
