MORGAN COUNTY, Ind. — Firefighters in Morgan County say they’re facing a shortage of ambulances in part of the county and as a result, in some cases, emergency responders aren’t getting to the scene fast enough.
“It takes a personal toll on you when you go there and you know that the victim’s been lying on the floor, having that heart attack for 10 or 15 minutes and it’s too late,” said Gregg Township Assistant Fire Chief Roger Kemp.
Kemp and others said the county needs more ambulances — specifically with paramedics in what are called “advanced life support” ambulances. “They’re trained in more advanced life saving procedures,” said Derek Wilson, Gregg Township Safety Officer. Currently, Gregg Township firefighters said if a resident there needs an ambulance with a paramedic, it usually has to come from Martinsville or Brown Township — several miles away.
