BUDD LAKE, N.J. — An ambulance transporting a patient to a local hospital went up in flames after smoke started pouring out of the dashboard.
The crew pulled to the side of the road and quickly removed the 40-year-old patient from the back of the ambulance, getting him to an apartment building for safety, according to Budd Lake Fire.
By the time firefighters arrived, the ambulance was fully engulfed. Firefighters stretched their front bomber line and had the flames under control within 15 minutes, but the rig was a total loss, NJ.com reports.
First aid squads transported the original patient to the hospital, along with two ambulance crew members who suffered smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
