AUTAUGA COUNTY, Ala. — An off-duty Ala. firefighter saved a woman and her granddaughter from a house fire earlier this month.
Prattville Fire Department Lt. Josh Brown was driving home when he saw a home on fire off the side of the road, WSFA reported Wednesday.
Two volunteer firefighters were already at the scene and Lt. Brown assisted them with fire suppression.
Lt. Brown did not know there were people inside the house until he walked around the back, he told WSFA.
Through heavy smoke he saw a bleeding woman and granddaughter in the back bedroom, who needed to be rescued immediately.
“I grabbed a couple of chairs and I climbed through the window and handed the girl first to the volunteers and handed the lady to them,” Lt. Brown told WSFA.
It’s all about teamwork and this is what we do,” Lt. Brown said, quick to credit his colleagues.
