POTSDAM, N.Y. — A New York fire chief died Thursday night after collapsing at the scene of a house fire.
West Stockholm Fire Chief Robert E. White Jr. was responding to the fire just a few houses away from his own home when he collapsed and was later pronounced dead at the hospital, according to WWNY.
White was also the St. Lawrence County district deputy coordinator of District 3.
Potsdam Fire Chief Time Jerome said the back of house was engulfed in fire.
“All I could see was smoke, just pouring out all over the place,” said homeowner Wayne Haught.
No other injuries were reported.
The fire remains under investigation.
