Lt. Jared Snell was driving home around 8 p.m. when authorities said he tried to pass a vehicle in his eastbound lane and crashed head-on into the 18-wheeler traveling west, KPRC reported.

The crash occurred about 10 miles east of Cleveland, Atascocita Fire Department spokesperson Jerry Dilliard said.

“Our hearts are broken, and our thoughts and prayers are with Jared Snell’s family,” Dilliard said. “Details regarding funeral arrangements for Jared will be provided as they become available.”
