ROCHESTER, N.H. — City emergency personnel were named providers of the year last week for their quick response and efforts to save a local 41-year-old man whose heart stopped last August.
The rescue is among the reasons Portsmouth Regional Hospital jointly named the Rochester fire and police departments and Frisbie EMS as its Cardiology Public Safety Agencies of the Year.
The hospital honored the agencies at its annual EMS appreciation banquet Thursday, May 23 at the Jarvis Center.
In conjunction with the award, several local personnel were also named Providers of the Year: Officer Jason Plumb, Fire Capt. Joe Burns, Firefighters Duane Marsh and Brian Snyder, and paramedics Jon Connors and Bob Frechette.
According to Rochester police, last August a woman found her husband unresponsive and not breathing. She performed CPR until Plumb, who is also a paramedic, arrived on scene, performed CPR and used an automated external defibrillator on the patient.
Rochester Fire and Frisbie EMS arrived shortly thereafter and assisted in the lifesaving measures, according to police. The patient received an intubation and a STEMI alert was activated by EMS to Portsmouth Regional Hospital. He ultimately survived and attended the awards ceremony to thank all the public safety personnel for their life saving measures, according to police.
“This is a great example of teamwork which had a successful outcome,” the Rochester Police Department wrote on its official Facebook page.
