PHILADELPHIA A Philadelphia Fire Department employee was slightly injured by flying glass Wednesday night when a man threw a bottle at the victim’s rescue vehicle at a Northern Liberties fire station, police said Thursday.

The 39-year-old victim was sitting behind the driver of a rescue squad vehicle about 10:20 p.m. as it was pulling out of the station, at 400 W. Girard Ave., police said.

As the driver of the vehicle told the man to move, the man continued to shout, then threw a bottle at the rescue vehicle, police said. The bottle hit a side window of the vehicle. Although the passenger behind the driver ducked, shattered glass from the window struck the employee, who suffered a small cut on his left arm, police said.

The victim was treated at Aria Health-Frankford hospital and released, police said.

A police spokeswoman said the bottle thrower was a 55-year-old man, but did not release his name because it wasn’t clear yet if he was charged.

She said she did not know if the victim was employed by the Fire Department as a firefighter.

A Fire Department spokesman said he did not immediately have details on the matter and would have to look into it.
