Volunteer firefighter killed in single-car crash

RAEFORD, N.C. — A volunteer firefighter was killed in a single-car accident in Hoke County Friday night, according to Highway Patrol.

Troopers said 22-year-old Sarah Stonesifer, of Aberdeen was traveling eastbound on Stubby Oaks Road when she ran off the road. Her car hit a fence post and flipped. Stonesifer was ejected from the vehicle.

Stonesifer was a veterinary assistant in West End, N.C. and also worked as a volunteer firefighter for Pine Hill Fire Department in Aberdeen. Coworkers said she was on her way to the station to meet up with her crew for dinner when the crash happened.
