UPLAND, Calif. — Three Upland firefighters were injured during a training drill Saturday morning.

The firemen were hurt around 11:10a.m. in an old animal shelter at 15th Street and Campus Avenue, according to Upland Fire Chief Michael Antonucci.

During a training exercise, a small wall collapsed, which in turn toppled two other walls.

One fire captain was trapped from his knees down. He suffered fractures to both legs.

He was airlifted to Loma Linda Medical Center where he underwent surgery Saturday.

A second firefighter suffered a broken finger and bruised hip, and another complained of knee and shoulder pain. They were treated at the scene and released.

The men’s names were not released.

Antonucci was not sure when the firefighters would be able return to work.
