The Fire and Emergency Manufacturers and Services Association (FEMSA) and the Fire Apparatus Manufacturers’ Association (FAMA) through their joint Governmental Affairs Committee (GAC) have again commissioned a special edition of the critically acclaimed “I Can’t Save You, But I’ll Die Trying: The American Fire Culture” by Dr. Burton A. Clark, EFO.
John Granby, FEMSA Director and GAC co-chair said, “Last October, during Fire Prevention Week, we were pleased to provide each member of the 114th Congress with a special edition of the highly acclaimed “I Can’t Save You, But I’ll Die Trying: The American Fire Culture.” We did so in the hope of initiating a meaningful dialogue on a variety of issues facing firefighters, citizens, government leaders, public administrators, and educators regarding fire safety. Since then, I am pleased to be able to report many states are in some stage of delivering books to their respective state legislatures and/or local officials with Kansas and Ohio having already done so.
Seeing the positive beginnings of this grass roots effort in 2016, we have again decided to gift books to every in-coming U.S. Congressman and woman in the 115th Congress. This year’s presentations will be centered on Safety Stand Down 2017, observed the week of June 18-24.”
Safety Stand Down is sponsored every year by the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) and the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC). The event is coordinated by the IAFC Safety, Health and Survival Section and the NVFC, and has national and international fire and emergency service organizations support. During this week, fire departments are encouraged to suspend all non-emergency activity to focus on training and education related to this year’s theme on mayday, self-rescue and rapid intervention.
