NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Firefighters battling a blaze Sunday morning had to dodge bullets after someone started shooting near them. Emergency crews were called to the scene on Keeling Avenue in East Nashville just before 1:00 a.m. No one was home at the time, and crews were able to knock the fire out quickly. But shortly after that, gunshots were heard nearby.

Firefighters, neighbors and even our camera crew took shelter behind a truck till they knew it was safe.

“When we walked away and saw that the house wasn’t on fire anymore we were walking home,” said neighbor James Elliot. “We got about halfway home and heard at least 10 gunshots and it sounded like it was close to where the fire was.”
