CLERMONT, Fla. — A hazardous-materials unit summoned Monday to examine a white powder found inside a package at a bank branch concluded that the substance posed no danger, Lake County Assistant Fire Chief Jack Fillman said.

The scare prompted the Fire Department to isolate two people directly exposed to the powder.

“We have not yet determined what it is — but we have determined what it is not,” Fillman said. “It is not hazardous.”

The powder was discovered inside a package opened by an employee of the National City Bank branch on State Road 50 about 2:45 p.m., Lake sheriff’s Cpl. James Vachon said. About eight people were inside the bank.
