YONKERS, N.Y. — At the annual Toughman Competition charity event, the Yonkers Police and Fire Department got a surprise speech from rapper DMX, TMZ reported.
Before the boxing fundraiser began DMX, who was emceeing the event, thanked police officers and firefighters for saving his life after he overdosed on Feb. 8.
“To go from, at one point running from the police ... — you know, to get away from what I was doing — to having those same police save my life … true heroes,” he said. “I’m not speaking from what somebody else told me or someone else’s opinion, this is my personal experience!”
While hosting the event, DMX performed “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem” and helped the department raise $80,000.
