Australian firefighters pose with cute animals in new calendar

The 2019 Australian Firefighters Calendar, which was shot at Steve Irwin’s zoo, raises money for the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital

BEERWAH, Australia — A new calendar features Australian firefighters posing with cute animals to raise money for a cause.

KVAL reported that the Australian firefighters went shirtless at Steve Irwin’s Australian Zoo to take pictures with animals, including koalas and puppies, for the 2019 Australian Firefighters Calendars. In addition, the group will be offering a new Cat Calendar, and idea that was generated after a Facebook post featuring the firefighters with kittens went viral.

Profits from the calendars help raise money for charities around the world every year, and this year the funds will be donated to the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital.

"We are very excited to start working with local Australian and international animal shelters,” Australian Firefighters Calendar Director David Rogers said. “We felt it was important to use the calendar’s social media presence to shine a light on the incredible work they all do. Even a small donation to these organizations can make an enormous difference and we look forward to expanding our support to these charities.”

Irwin’s daughter, Bindi, called the firefighters “wildlife warriors.”

“We are so excited to be involved with the 2019 Australian Firefighters Calendar again,” she said. “The funds they raise help to save and protect Australian native wildlife around the country.”

Since its creation in 1993, the Australian Firefighters Calendar has raised over $800,000 for charity.
