BORDENTOWN, N.J. — A volunteer firefighter in Bordentown City was arrested last week after he was accused of possessing and distributing child pornography, officials said.

Jay J. Howe, 36, of Bordentown Township, was arrested on Feb. 9 and charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, according to a joint statement from the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and the Bordentown Township Police Department.

The agencies’ investigation began in December after the office’s high-tech crimes unit received information regarding Howe’s cyber activities from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, police said. It was later revealed that Howe was using an app to send and receive videos containing child sexual abuse material, authorities alleged.

He was taken into custody at his home following the execution of a search warrant, the office said. Electronic devices seized during the search will be examined by detectives from the office, it said.

After his arrest, Howe was lodged in the Burlington Jail in Mount Holly pending a detention hearing in superior court.
