LODD: Ohio firefighter dies while fighting house fire

The Tri-Community firefighter was found in the home’s basement

GREENWICH, Ohio — A firefighter with the Tri-Community Joint Fire Department died in the line of duty on April 16 while working at a house fire.

The Huron County Coroner’s Office identified the firefighter as 41-year-old John Saunders. The fire occurred at a home in the 700 block of U.S. Route 224 near the intersection with New State Road South in Willard, WJW reported.

According to the coroner’s office, Saunders was found in the home’s basement.

An official cause of death has not yet been determined.
