N.C. firefighter dies after on-duty medical emergency

A Hickory Fire Department firefighter died June 5 after suffering a medical emergency while on duty

HICKORY, N.C. — A firefighter with the Hickory Fire Department died on 5 June after experiencing a medical emergency while on duty. The firefighter was transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced deceased.

WCNC reported that no additional details have been released at this time.

The firefighter’s identity has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

“The City of Hickory mourns the loss of this dedicated firefighter and is working closely with the family to honor their wishes during this incredibly difficult time,” the department stated on social media.
