NEW ORLEANS — A New Orleans Fire Department captain died while on duty on March 3. The veteran firefighter had just completed 30 years, the department stated on social media.
The department did not report the cause of Captain Michael Windsay’s death. Windsay’s death comes approximately a week after Captain John Blackwell, who died after battling colon cancer, NOLA.com reported.
Windsay was the acting Firth District Chief.
“This last week has been a very difficult and trying time for our department as we mourn the passing two veteran leaders within our ranks,” Captain Edwin Holmes said in a statement.
