Mayday: 6 Chicago FFs hospitalized after flashover
Video shows one of the firefighters leaping from the roof of the building to another building to escape

CHICAGO — Six Chicago firefighters were hospitalized after a flashover and mayday call during a structure fire on Friday morning, with one firefighter making a daring escape by jumping from the roof of one building to another.
The Chicago Fire Department tweeted that a mayday was called during the blaze, but that all firefighters were accounted for by around 8:45 a.m. A total of six firefighters were transported with injuries that are not life-threatening, officials said.

Chicago fire officials also reported that one of the firefighters had jumped from the building. WGN-TV cameras captured a firefighter jumping from the roof of the burning building to another building next door in order to escape.

Chicago Fire Department District Chief Steven Clay said the injured firefighters sustained minor burns and are doing well. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
