Mark Doty came from a long line of volunteer firefighters and oversaw the training of more than 18,000 firefighters this year

WESTON, W. Va. — A firefighter and well-known trainer died Wednesday morning after an accident involving an ATV.

“He was very progressive and proactive in training. He believed strongly that firefighters and the first responders community deserved only the best, and he strived to attain that at WVU Fire Extension,” Acting state Fire Marshal Tony Carrico told MetroNews.

The WVU Extension Service said its faculty and staff is deeply saddened and offer condolences to his family, according to the report.

Under firefighter Doty’s leadership, WVU Fire Service Extension instructors have trained more than 18,000 firefighters this year.
