HILLSBORO, N.H. — Firefighters say an elderly Hillsboro man was hospitalized after he was rescued from the floor of his smoke-filled home.
Officials said an elderly woman managed to escape the Center Road home after the fire broke out about 3:30 p.m. yesterday.
But the woman’s husband, who has trouble walking, couldn’t get out. The woman told firefighters her husband was lying on the kitchen floor.
When the police arrived they tried to rescue the man but couldn’t, because they didn’t have breathing equipment.
When firefighters arrived they rescued the man.
Fire Chief Kenny Stafford told the New Hampshire Union Leader the victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. There’s no word on his condition.
The cause of the fire was not released, although it’s not considered suspicious.
