This week’s Photo of the Week shows the family of FDNY Firefighter Daniel Foley at the department’s Medal Day ceremony, where they accepted the Emerald Society Medal awarded posthumously for Foley’s rescue of two children in 2019.
Foley braved flames and thick smoke to find and save the children from the burning high-rise after seeing their small hands waving in a seventh-floor window. One year later, Foley died from 9/11-related pancreatic cancer. Foley was the brother of Firefighter Tommy Foley, who was killed in the line of duty at the World Trade Center on the day of the attacks.
