Cops: NC firefighter paid bills with dept. funds

The 19-year-old is accused of using $624 to pay two AT&T bills, as well as an admission payment to a university

GRAYS CREEK, N.C. — A volunteer firefighter is accused of using a fire department’s money to help pay personal bills, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said.

Randy Reid, 19, of the 4800 block of Gray’s Creek Road, is charged with three counts of identity theft, a Sheriff’s Office release said.

Reid, who was arrested Tuesday, was a volunteer at Gray’s Creek Fire Department when the alleged transactions happened.

Reid is accused of using $624.05 of the department’s money in June and July to pay two AT&T bills as well as an admission payment to Prairie View A&M University, the release said.

Bail information was not given.
