OAKLAND, Pa. — City firefighters rescued two elderly people this evening from a burning house in Oakland, city emergency dispatchers said.

Firefighters were called about 9 p.m. to a three-story house on Meyran Avenue near the intersection of Louisa Street.

When they arrived, they told dispatchers, they went into the burning building after neighbors told them an elderly couple lived in the house.

A man in his 80s was taken to UPMC Presbyterian in Oakland for treatment of what firefighters described as “minor smoke inhalation.”
