JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A firefighter who was slashed and stabbed by a patient last week was released from the hospital Tuesday.

News4Jax.com reported that Capt. Latorrence Norris and firefighter Vinnie Harper were stabbed by a patient while en route to a hospital last week. Harper was treated for a cut to his leg and released from the hospital the same day. However, Norris suffered critical injuries, including a collapsed lung.

Davay Kinsey, a UF Health security officer, has been credited with helping save Norris’ life after she heard the firefighters were in distress. She responded, put Norris on the back of her golf cart and rushed him to the ER.

Tony Harris, the patient who stabbed the firefighters, is facing two counts of aggravated battery on a firefighter and resisting arrest, according to the report.

Norris will continue his recovery at home.
